Communication styles

There are four main communication styles:

Passive

They are kind of introverts. They cannot say no when it comes to decision-making. They have poor posture and lack of confidence. They do not make proper eye contact and have a soft voice. They have a fear of speaking in front of an audience. They follow I lose you win. It is advised to talk in private with them instead of pulling them into group discussions.

Aggressive

They are kind of extroverts who tend to dominate the talk. They used to react before thinking, which can create a hostile environment. They follow I win, you lose. To deal with these focus on facts, remain calm, and walk away if not making positive progress.

Passive-Aggressive

Their actions will not match their words. They can turn a situation in their favour because of their selfish nature. They don't respect other’s efforts. They are two-faced, unreliable, and untrustworthy. They follow I lose, you lose. To deal with these types of people, you must make clear requests, clear misunderstandings and confusion, document conversations and outcomes, confront negative behaviour, and pull the manager into the conversation if there is conflict.

Assertive

They accept challenges, share thoughts and ideas confidently, and say “no“ if required. They know their limits very well. They used to speak loud and clear. They are respectful and polite. It is a beneficial and productive type of communication in the workplace. These types of people are best suited for leadership roles. They follow I win, you win.
